Destination Management


Objective:


1)      To apply the principles and concepts learnt in the course in a realistic setting


2)      To practice presentation skills and report writing skills


3)      To learn about the diversity of destinations from your classmates


 


Tasks:


1)      Select a city destination of your choice, [I need to use Macau]. You need to do in-depth research on this city destination and therefore, you need to preliminarily assess the availability and amount of the required information.


 


2)      Based on the principles and concepts learnt in the course, try to address the following questions about your chosen destination using the “Conceptual model of destination competitiveness” by Ritchie and Crouch (2003).


甲、In the tourism supply environment, identify and briefly describe the core resources and attractors, as well as the supporting factors and resources of your chosen destination. Assess their roles in enhancing the destination competitiveness.


乙、Identify the destination management organization (DMOs) in your chosen destination. What is the destination core vision? What are the policies or action plans or strategies that the DMOs have formulated to realize the vision?


丙、Analyze the contributions of the DMOs in destination management in ONE of the following areas:


                             i.                Ecological sustainability policy


                           ii.                Economic sustainability policy


                          iii.                Socio-cultural sustainability policy


                         iv.                Destination marketing and promotion


                           v.                Crisis management


                         vi.                Visitor management
