GLOBALIZATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN NEW ZEALAND

In this era globalization has taken the world by storm almost all countries are now interrelated and parallel with the events including political, social, and behavioral and especially advancement in highly technological society that makes the world an easier place to live. Communication and information has brought a new dimension to business and the society itself to become globally competitive so that a nation must adopt the system or be left behind the mainstream focus in economic development which has been the function of globalization.

The trading of products and services is no longer a hindrance to every country who has adopted the system, globalization has indeed makes the world a better place. The tourism and manpower sourcing changes through times that we can import and export even the highest qualified people of our interest and the tools and equipment can be associated in many industry everywhere, the use of the internet highlights the standard research that is easy to use and highly economical this has been a breakthrough and a milestone creating unison of countries to relate in each other in just a few clicks of a button.

Globalization in summary has change the economic standard of the world and increases international trade and cultural relationship acceptance representing economic opportunities and challenges among all nations that is up to the country if they are going to take the system or not, which means globalization influence severely the world and no country is exempted about. World trade organization has been the founder of globalization to unite countries all over the world through the introduction of free trade policy that has unified countries to join the globalization and introduce their products and services to compete the world. All this and more are the effects of globalization.

New Zealand has been participating globalization for quite sometimes starting in new context of economy. The minority and indigenous people have accepted the English language as a form of their communication. As early as 1980’s they have been engage in many industrial and agricultural trading associated with World Trade Organization to further encourage community development and employment generation through production of goods and services that the small farmers and workers can take part. During these years the small population of New Zealand began to develop and reform the local to introduce global awareness. And in 1983 they have developed a Closer Economic Relation to Australia that has opened up new dimension in banking, business, open labor and capital opportunities throughout the land and substantially returned benefits for two partnering countries.

Australia has become their biggest export clients of various products. The early 1990’s the breakthrough of internet has been presented to urban communities that created and revolutionized the education system presenting opportunities and benefits in research and technology. This open up another worldwide opportunity that they have traded to more than 100 countries all over the world, they have garnered the 2nd 2004 cleanest and honest governance and on the next year top of the list of ease of trading business in 2005. This has basically promoted solidarity and welfare among the communities that brought in changes in their indigenous society.

But New Zealand have also experienced dispute and competition during the mid 90’s when other countries like Hungary and Canada who have over exported against their agricultural products like milk, dairies, lambs etc. including textile and industrial products. They have somehow settled these disputes and regain their economic existence to boost their moral in the export industry. They have even further strengthened international democratic trade relation as expected to promote human rights. But then again another dispute has arise with the US and European nations that the New Zealand and Australian relation has imposed a so called inconsistent policy to World Trade Organization and it took some times after the US has taken to withdraw the measures of inconsistency.

New Zealand felt like they have been bullied by the larger countries that they have been overpowered for there are sanctions that are imposed by the complaining countries and not the World Trade Organization Policy who will implement rules to settle such dispute this makes their country unable to demonstrate their sovereignty. And this has been their weak point entry to globalized economy. They will be forced to follow the rules as imposed by conflicting ideas set by the larger countries and that this will bring them to drain down its power to discussion. In response to the disputes there are rules about the World Trade Organization ways on consensus to settle such disagreement through mutually agreed procedures and finally this multi-lateral rules are to be implemented that will protect all countries to participate in community development and globalization process.
