Elementary School Mathematics


The students need to have the access on the meaningful and challenging world of mathematics despite of its socioeconomic, gender, disability and any other factors which has the significant implications to the learning and teaching of mathematics in the entire community. This only suggests that it can ensure the excellence and equity which must be the central part of the education system in general. The community members therefore and the educators needs to recognized that most of the students needs to strive further in their mathematical ability in order to be globally competitive whether they are poor, minority, women, have different race. With regards to the curriculum, it must be student oriented and need to achieve every goal of the students and must be aligned to the goals that are being described in the said curriculum. Thus, the curriculum needs to be based on the national standard. Aside from that, the focused must be the students in their understanding of mathematics and the development of the mathematical structure and appeals to the intellect of the students. In structuring the curriculum, it is highly recommended it must use the realistic context as well as applications in concrete models for the intuitive sense of the students which signifies that the meaning had been constructed before anything else. In teaching the first things that needs to consider is the teachers knowledge and the strategies that it need to do before he teach, aside from that, following the curriculum, the teaching process needs to be understandable and must be challenging in supporting the needs to the students as well as the teacher was there for support only. The teaching process needs also to be attractive for the students and the material and visuals that will use was catchy to the eyes of every student with what the students needs to learn and know according to its age, interest, understanding whereas the teacher needs to be flexible for the possible behavior of the students. The things right after the teaching process is the student’s learning. This level teaching was the most important and the students therefore must learn mathematics with understanding in the body of knowledge from and prior the experience of learning. This means that after the teaching, the students have something learned. Thus, it’s not sufficient that the students had understood the concept and theory of mathematics; rather, they have ready and know to apply it in the real world. For the students’ assessment, it must support the mathematics outcome of the students learning and the teachers’ process of teaching. This assessment therefore needs proper evaluation technique in determining the degree of learning of the students and the teachers teaching and must be in accordance to the national assessment standards. The assessment can also determine the complexities of the characteristics, design and construction of the tests, teaching, and topic in mathematics which in return can be improved. The use of technology can also be helpful for the students and to the teachers’ process of teaching because it can enhance the students’ awareness which can be interesting for the students. Such technology includes visuals as power point presentation, computer aided machines and other gadgets which can enhance the students’ mathematical ability. The use of real life example and diagrams in computing mathematics can enable the students to be more interested to listed and to learn and can enhance the students learning in general.


These concepts are significantly important for the teachers that teach mathematics because it has the ability to recognize its weakness and the students. In this regard, the improvement in the process of teaching can be developed while the standard of mathematics education had been made it higher so that each and every students can recognized the essence and important of mathematics in their daily lives. These concept will designate the teacher the best strategies in teaching, what to teach, the way in teaching, and the materials use in teaching in achieving its goals of convey the knowledge in its students. Thus, this can help the teachers if to adapt the educational aides needed in teaching. The teacher then needs to verbalize everything in the blackboard which is part of the teaching process. Synthesizing the tests needs to be analyzing also before giving to the students. The teachers can also realize that teaching mathematics was their jobs and needs to apply in every student live so that they can appreciate it more. Therefore, concepts like these are helpful for the students and to the teachers.


            Since, teachers have the philosophy of being student centered that focused primarily to the individual needs and involve the students’ process for their learning.  Thus, its primarily focused was the students learning in mathematics and learn how to solve. Just like the ideas of Piaget, the students are constructing their learning and the teachers are responsible for their learning. Thus, in the process of assessment, the student was also part of it and involved in the decision making and improvement.
