DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND THEIR BASIC FUNCTION
Organizational structure is the framework of business it is the representation of hierarchy that is pre arranged in order to understand the authority and position of its member it can also include their duties and responsibilities according to their positions. Organization can be represented in a Gantts chart that is usually displayed in offices so that people can easily recognized their roles and their standings of who has the rank to control or manifest within the power of the organization. Usually the top position has the most of the authority while the bottom has the lowest but they are all a part of the organization and they must have to learn to help others in order to grow. The best and simplest example of organizational structure is the family were usually the father is the authority but without it will be the mother who will need to take charge to their children.
In a bigger scale organizations they use Functional structure that grouped their employees by department they are given each of their own task in Marketing, Management, Sales and Accounting department etc. are separated in their functions. The advantage of this type is that employees are grouped according to their expertise that enables efficiency in manpower and labor procedure. Usually its disadvantage is the lack of control from one department to another it can even create a conflict from different department when their people are not a subordinate over the others.
Divisional structure organization is also needed since customers may vary in preferences and demand such as culture and religion, demography and other factors. In order to meet their demand a certain restaurant business can serve almost any food in the US but they cannot offer meat in the Middle East so the department will have to think of alternative or experts of their field. While expanding from other country the downside of this structure is that they may need to duplicate their resources or in the restaurant their menus are limited. Different people and different skills are also needed so that they may serve the customers well instead of their standard practices. Because of these factors the control of one branch to another maybe limited in their location rather than in a centralized and continuous organization.
Product Structure organization can also be sought for example in a supermarket where most of the goods are sold coming from different supplier like Procter and Gamble, Unilever and other supplier the distributor will need to present a salesclerk or merchandiser to take care of their products from different stores or their product will slowly or move. The control or sales of their merchandise may also be weak if the store do not promote or accept their products in their stores. Its advantages rely entirely on how they promote their products to create a larger network of distribution from different places for visibility and customers reach. The supplier does not even have a direct control over the stores but only in their products and their sales representatives or merchandiser. Most of the time these stores pay on 30 to 60 day terms basis.
There are other organizational structure considerations depending on the companies needs but basically the consideration should be the span control of management to their employees. Whatever organizational structure a company may want to choose they must make sure that this will be in their advantage. In comparison there really is nothing wrong with different organization represented herein but there are a few limitations and disadvantages on the parts of the management function in most of this structure so they may think of ways in order to exercise their advantage over others. Although the drawing above is limited and does not exactly reflect the exact representation of organizational structure it is a clear signs of management and authoritative functions of most of business functions. Different leadership styles and their control may vary accordingly to these representations they are dependent exactly in the nature of business the company represents or according to their products and services. Management can also create a mix structure of different organizational structure they want for their advantage in order to serve their company at its best.
