OBJECTIVES As a person with knowledge of human resource management, the author has always brought up to his superiors the viability of strategy formation regarding human resources management and at times fail to understand the reasons or logic behind certain strategic implementations imposed on its distribution. By delving into this project paper, the author intends to have better insights into how human resource management is thought up, formulated and then imparted down. The author hopes to have an in-depth understanding as to how the HR professionals reconcile the need to become more strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional personnel roles. In order to reinforce the learning objectives, two key focal issues were focused upon, i.e. innovation and diversity. Innovation was discussed with regards to human resources management where it was renowned for its developmental capabilities to constantly innovate. Diversity came under strategic thinking and formation as the author considered the diverse culture, political climate, economic surroundings, social environment, technological settings, government policies and legal systems in order to understand the role that HR professionals perform. EXECUTIVE BRIEF This essay utilized HR professionals as the model to review their innate characteristics and how they dealt with critical situations. From the analysis, key trends in their needs to become strategic were identified, how they worked and their effectiveness in dealing with critical situations was ascertained. The paper then moved on to assess the HR professional’s traditional personnel roles with regard to their suitability to critical situations, during which the HR professional’s internal capabilities in relation to the traditional personnel roles being followed was determined also. An overall analysis on how HR professionals can reconcile the need to become more strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional personnel roles was also conducted to assess and compare the capabilities of their strategies with those of others. Gaps in their capabilities and the reconciliation process were then identified. Finally, several choices of strategies to improve the strategic roles and skills of the HR professionals as effective means in critical situations were then recommended and evaluated in terms of appropriateness to the issues reviewed, feasibility in carrying out the options and acceptability within the key stakeholders and decision makers. Several key implementation issues related to managing strategic change was also addressed as well. INTRODUCTION All companies and organizations are governed by their basic goals and objectives. These objectives are often regarded to as the “corporate vision” or “corporate philosophy” . Thus, certain strategies are being implemented with the aim of achieving these goals and objectives, and this constitutes a key element in the characterization of a company or organization. Human Resource Professionals are undoubtedly an important indicator in determining the characteristics of a company or organization. It is a well known fact that human resource professionals play a crucial role towards differentiation and a potent source of competitiveness for any organization or company. Therefore, any organization must constantly invest in human resource professional development even during periods of recession. However, the determination of the extent to which an organization can invest in terms of human resource professional development depends on the financial capabilities of the company or organization. Finances will also be carefully considered in determining the target for training and development, because it should jive with the basic policies of an organization’s human resource development strategy.              Human resource professional development in most organizations and companies in the past decade has gradually transformed from low-level activities into high-profile contributors to organizational success. However, budgets are also elevating at a faster rate than the gross national product. In the midst of this growth and increased influence, managers and executives of companies and organizations are left with confusing question: How can HR professionals reconcile the need to become more strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional personnel roles? Goals / Objectives of HR Professionals HR Professionals have four main objectives: A)   Remain one of the top professionals in terms of educating and entertaining people. Being on top of the industry enables HR professionals to command the respect and confidence of the public. Thus, the HR professional is able to expand its expertise aside from the traditional personnel roles through the acquisition of critical knowledge and skills. B)    Gain more income than other professionals. The services that are being laid down by HR professionals are able to meet high quality standards of their clients. As a result, Hr professionals are able to earn more income as against other professionals in other industries. C)    Establish the best brand of quality HR services; and D)   Maintaining its independence. Being independent allows Hr professionals to continue their tradition of excellence in both its services by setting new trends and standards. More often than not, human resource professionals don’t really make an immediate impact upon performance of the traditional personnel roles. Instead, they engage in activities that gradually propel them towards the high level of importance. However, the roles that human resource professionals play are not limited to traditional personnel roles. Activities such as educating the public and other social responsibilities are often related with human resource professionals. A great deal of emphasis lies on the efficiency and effectiveness of these roles. Therefore, understanding human resource professionals includes the analysis and management of their significant roles. It is interesting to know the basic innate characteristics of human resource professionals which contribute towards the effective pursuit of their traditional personnel roles. ·        Mental Stability Mental stability is crucial especially in the pursuit of the correct decision as well as the management and development of the processes accompanying it. It is important for human resource professionals to remain updated with the latest developments to be able to stay aware and knowledgeable in all issues. ·        Performance and Credibility The production of their best human resource outputs comes as a result of well-funded research management and development activities. The strong performance of human resource professionals and their outputs could also be linked to the effective strategic planning and human resource mobilization. Thus, the human resource professional’s credibility increases as his / her performance becomes better. ·        Planning and Strategy Formation Capabilities Planning and strategy formation nowadays has created the need for human resource professionals to become aggressive especially in the area of marketing themselves. This is because the access to strong distribution channels is critical for their continued popularity. ·        Decision-making abilities. Upon arriving at the correct decision or choice, the human resource professional now gains confidence in his / her ability to make critical decisions or choices especially when his / her integrity is on the line. Thus, this human resource professional will now search for even more challenges and opportunities where he / she could further enhance his / her decision-making abilities regarding current human resource issues. ·        Holistic Mindset of Issues Through the exposure to various puzzling human resource issues, the human resource professional along the process is able to develop a holistic mindset regarding the issues surrounding him / her. The human resource professional now becomes a keen observer of the truths and lies surrounding the issue being tackled, instead of relying on mere hearsays. The continuous pursuit of the truth behind the puzzling issues enables the human resource professional to consistently practice and enhance a healthy and holistic mindset which makes it difficult for detractors to give influence. Because of this holistic approach, the human resource professional is able to effectively select the right choice and continue to maximize this potential for future use. HR Professionals and the Need to become Strategic In lieu of the present developments in human resource professional development, there have been significant visions of learning that evolved. A majority of these learning visions are based on the idea that human resource professional development is a social process where knowledge is denied instead of being acquired passively. Learning, then, transforms into an interactive process. The interaction is being verified through the help of the participants in the learning process such as the human resource professional and the managers. In this framework, becoming strategic would mean the continued guidance and support of the active learning process. Obviously, this would call for an intensive and phased guiding strategy. When in the active pursuit to become strategic, the interaction of human resource professionals with the managers forms an integral part towards its success. Collaborative learning as a strategic method is gradually being used by human resource professionals nowadays. Through this approach, the human resource professional can become strategic through the imitation of common human resource development techniques in the socialization processes. In the process, the human resource professionals are able to obtain the chance to see their own ideas in a different aspect and therefore be able to take alternatives into consideration. The relative effectiveness of this approach is determined with the capability of the human resource professionals to continuously challenge their pre-acquired knowledge by trying to adapt to the interpretations of their managers. Aside from the managers and the HR professionals, the different resources of strategic learning belong to a third category of factors of a learning environment. Moreover, strategic learning methods have shown signs of significant growth over the past years. Consequently, obtaining knowledge becomes more complicated. This is because the transformation of all this information into strategic knowledge requires the managers to possess the appropriate reference frameworks. How can HR professionals reconcile the need to become more strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional personnel roles? The recent efforts of HR professionals to reconcile the need to become strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional personnel roles would definitely make progress with the growing role of information and communications technology (ICT) in the human resource development. This fits in with the larger need of HR professionals towards reconciling with the demands of managers. Therefore, the reconciliation process would become possible if the HR professionals are fully adapted to ICT. Nowadays, HR professionals are more and more using artificial intelligence systems in order to carry out their traditional personnel roles . The traditional personnel roles of the HR professionals are being influenced by the interaction of two major factors. On the one hand, the instructional factors: the human resource philosophy brought about by the HR professionals and its conversion into didactical ideas. On the other hand, organizational factors: the managers, staff, infrastructure and policies related in this area. It is obvious that the HR professional must possess a sound vision of policies and the efficient use of the operating budget in order to effectively reconcile the need to become more strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional personnel roles. Nevertheless, these HR professionals need an interaction between both factors. This is because in order to respond to the new visions of learning, they will eventually transform into a model together with the various aspects of the reconciliation process. In return, the managers will have to continuously monitor their limitations and along the process introduce innovations. CONCLUSION The results of the analysis carried out on the traditional personnel roles of HR professionals indicated very significant effects, even amidst the threats of unrest. Therefore, we could conclude that the HR professional’s traditional personnel roles could still be expected to increase faster than average. The review of the HR professional’s capabilities and resources revealed very little inconsistencies regarding their need to become strategic. This is coherent with their traditional inside-out approach. However, the need to reconcile both the inside-out and outside-in approaches becomes imperative now for the HR professionals. The analysis among the reconciliation process as well as the traditional personnel roles of the HR professionals revealed certain gaps, most of which are biased towards the environment. However, these gaps paved the way towards determining a number of recommended strategic options to secure the HR professional’s competitiveness. Also, the HR professional has to find a balance between adherence to internal forces and to the changing forces of the environment in order to effectively reconcile the need to become more strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional personnel roles. Changes in the Family

This paper will argue about the changes that are happening to the family  today which is also  an important institution of the society. It will attempt to identify and highlight the factors and other aspects that about brought these changes to the family. Lastly, it will try to provide evidences and other materials to support these initial hypotheses.             In my opinion, the state and condition of the society is dependent on the stability and sturdiness of the family as an institution. This direct relationship is possible because the family is the first socializing institution that a child faces. He/she acquires traits, customs, traditions and mores that are important to the society thru constant and unending socialization and association to the members of his/her family. If this function is flawed or non-existed, the society can experience problems and difficulties. Evidence that supports this position can be cited in the case of the Soviet Union. During the early years of its existence, the communist government in Russia advocated divorce, abortion and sexual freedom and these practices resulted in a massive increase of crime, vagrancy, neglect of children and falling birth rates. The effect of these practices was so far reaching that Stalin in 1934 stated that the family as the basic cell and foundation of Soviet society must be strengthened (Geiger 1968, p. 55).             One significant factor that brought about change in the American family is through modernization, urbanization and rapid industrialization. These processes refer to the rapid movement of goods, services and people and the fast advances in the field of science and technology. These societal conditions have also altered the family. Today, there is a decline on the authority of the husband or father due to the shift in the production activities from their home to the factory where they are working. Many hours of work deprives the husband/father to exercise authority in the family. Due to urbanization, the city becomes an agent that tends to undercut family and community ties which are developed by the family earlier. The usual social pressure which serves as a deviant behavior in a closely-knit family is eroded and is replaced by liberal ideas and definitions that are advocated by the society.  In a study conducted by Franklin Zimring (1998), it was found out that violence and deviant behavior are acquired by children and students because of constant peer and social pressure to conform or to “fit in”.             Change has also affected the family with regards to gender roles. Women are now challenging the traditional division of labor while pressing for a redefinition of roles. As a result, they have become conscious with regards to subject such as discrimination in the workplace, sexual harassments, equal pay and equal chance of promotion (Cleveland 2000, p. 83). Therefore, out of this situation, a decline in gender segregation and discrimination as far as the work and occupation is concerned. Women can enter and obtain training in almost any occupation today including military life.              In my opinion, the family is not weakening but evolving and is being different and although I agree that the family is changing, this institution’s greatest strength comes from the fact that is adaptable and it can change in the face of social and cultural changes. Its lеadеrs wеrе hailеd as hеroеs. Thеn a young writеr, Bеthany McLеan, wrotе an articlе, ‘Is Enron Ovеrpricеd’ (1) that askеd a simplе quеstion – how, еxactly, doеs Enron makе its monеy? -and thе housе of cards bеgan to collapsе. Within a yеar, Enron was facing humiliation and bankruptcy. Though othеr businеss scandals wеrе to follow, nonе has had thе shattеring еffеct of Еnron’s bankruptcy, which was thе largеst in US businеss history. Еnron’s collapsе causеd Amеricans to loosе faith with a systеm that rеwardеd insidеrs with millions of dollars whilе small invеstors lost еvеrything. It was swiftly revealed that Enron’s success was an illusion, fuelled by billions of dollars in transactions and off-balance shееt dеals that strеtchеd accounting rulеs and gavе thе imprеssion that Enron was a hеalthy, fast-growing company. In this papеr I will try to show thе risе and fall of one of thе most powerful and succеssful companiеs in History of Amеrican еconomy. I. An Ovеrviеw of thе History of Enron In considеrеd thе 7th company in Amеrican еconomy. Enron was originatеd in 1985 whеn Houston Natural Gas mеrgеd with IntеrNorth, a natural gas company basеd in Omaha, NЕ. Kеnnеth Lay, formеrly CЕO of Houston Natural Gas, bеcamе thе now-namеd Enron’s first Chairman and CЕO in Fеbruary 1986. Thе last еthical issuе is thе actual systеm; this is thе cеntеr of all Еnron’s problеms.             III. Implications for Mysеlf as a Managеr Whilе looking through Enron rеlatеd wеb pagеs and rеading Pеtеr Fusaro’s “What wеnt wrong at Enron,” I gainеd a good sеnsе for thеir еthical and human valuе codе, and whеrе еxactly thеy wеnt wrong in applying it. Еnron statеs that rеspеct, intеgrity, communication and еxcеllеncе arе thеir main arеas of concеrn. Thеsе wеrе all violatеd during thе duration of this scandal and thе months bеforе, along with еach and еvеry principlе of human rights thеy claimеd to hold valuablе. “Еnron stands on thе foundation of its Vision and Valuеs. This is anothеr statеmеnt that provеs to bе a liе, еach еmployее was put in jеopardy and lost a good dеal of monеy and rеspеct by thе actions Еnron еxеcutivеs chosе to takе. Thе nеxt statеmеnt Еnron statеs as a principlе of human valuе gеts right to thе corе of how unеthical thеy actеd. Еnron statеs that; “Wе arе dеdicatеd to conducting businеss according to all applicablе local and intеrnational laws and rеgulations, including but not limitеd to, thе U.S. Forеign Corrupt Practicеs Act, and with thе highеst profеssional and еthical standards.” This is a blatant liе and goеs against еvеrything thеy did. Еach of thеsе еxamplеs show how Еnron says onе thing and doеs thе complеtе oppositе. Еach of thеsе statеmеnts arе claimеd to bе hеld in high importancе in Еnron, but as wе havе sееn thеy arе еach violatеd in еvеry aspеct. Last, a primе еxamplе of how Еnron violatе human rights is shown by thе way thеy trеatеd thеir еmployееs and thеir rеtirеmеnt accounts. Many of thеsе Еnron еmployееs and rеtirееs that wеrе еffеctеd by this scandal havе joinеd in lawsuits against currеnt and formеr company еxеcutivеs and dirеctors, and against auditor Andеrsеn. In conclusion I can say that thе Еnron scandal is a painful еxamplе of what can go wrong in Amеrican businеss. Fundamеntally, thе Amеrican stylе of capitalism dеpеnds on trust. It nееds to bе ablе to dеpеnd on promisеs madе, on rеports bеing truthful, on facts bеing facts. But, Еnron rеpеatеdly hid information about risky vеnturеs, dеvеlopmеnts advеrsе to its stock pricе, or othеr еvеnts that workеd to affеct thе еmployееs’ pеnsions. A good corporation dеvеlops and implеmеnts a practical codе of еthics, including fair play in dеaling with customеrs, fair trеatmеnt and training of еmployееs, and rеspеct for human rights and dignity. But, whatеvеr Еnron’s statеmеnts show, whеn Еnron’s bubblе burst, most of its kеy еxеcutivеs sееm to havе takеn carе of thеmsеlvеs and not thеir partnеrs, thеir customеrs, or thеir еmployееs. Lab Report on Lactate Threshold

Introduction             The lactate threshold is a field in exercise physiology where several studies have already been conducted. A lactate threshold test is useful as it will lead to the discovery of specific applications of a person’s racing, training, and other exercise activities. The workload corresponding to the lactate threshold and onset of blood lactate accumulation has previously been quantified using lactate tests incorporating stage increments (McNaughton, 2002).             The anaerobic threshold is a submaximal index related to endurance exercise performance, which is usually determined by the measurement of blood lactate concentration during an incremental exercise test (lactate threshold). The lactate threshold, and thus the anaerobic threshold, can also be detected noninvasively in normal subjects by means of the gas exchange threshold (GET).             The concept that muscle contraction can occur for extended periods of time without sufficient oxygen supply may have been first suggested as early as 1871. As early as 1909, investigators surmised that lactate stimulated respiration during high-intensity exercise. Between 1910 and 1915, other investigators suggested that lactate was the “signal” that initiated muscle contraction, and the role of oxygen was to remove lactate once it was formed (it is now known, of course, that lactate is the product of, not the cause of, muscle contraction). Shortly thereafter, several other laboratories in the United States and Europe independently reported that exercise intensity, lactate production, metabolic acidosis, and bicarbonate buffering appeared to be linked. The accumulation of lactate in the blood was thought to reflect a point during exercise in which oxygen supply was inadequate to meet the energy requirements of the working muscle. In the early 1960s, investigators linked lactate production in the blood to endurance performance among German athletes. In 1964, other investigators explicitly developed the concept that a critical threshold exists in which (1) the metabolic needs for oxygen in the muscle exceed the capacity of the cardiopulmonary system to supply them, (2) there is a sudden increase in anaerobic metabolism, and (3) lactate is formed in the muscle (Ashley, 1997).             There are limited data on the reproducibility of blood lactate variables, heart rates and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) during sub-maximal exercise. The aim of this study was to determine the lactate threshold, at different blood lactate concentrations, heart rate (beats per minute) and RPE during a continuous, incremental training cycle. The hypothesis of this study is that there is a directly proportional relationship between heart rate and rate of perceived exertion to measures of blood lactate threshold. Methods             The lactate threshold in this experiment was obtained by a progressive exercise test and by taking a blood sample at the end of each stage. The lactate content of each blood sample is then analyzed. Lactate profile is a form of testing that is very useful in monitoring changes in fitness and should be performed several times throughout the course of the training cycle.             Before starting the experiment, the conditions of the testing facility such as the room temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity are recorded on data sheets.             Informed consent is given to every participant of the study and each of them is also asked to complete the health questionnaire given to them. The body mass of the subject is then measured in terms of kilograms.             The heart rate transmitter was attached to the chest of the subject. RPE measurements were recorded every minute throughout the test. The appropriate lab safety and subject care protocol for obtaining a small blood sample were followed.             As is the same with some other studies that were conducted in the past, the sample blood is taken from the earlobe of the subject at rest and at the end of each stage. The Lactate Pro handheld lactate analyser was used to determine the blood lactate concentrations for the subject.              In this study conducted, the test started with 100 watts of power. This is increased steadily until exhaustion is reached by the subject. The duration of each stage is 4 minutes. Every 4 minutes, the resistance of the cycle ergometer is increased by 25 watts. During the last 30 seconds of each stage, the physiological resistance of each stage is taken and recorded and the resistance is increased by 50 W. The concentration of blood lactate, the ratings of perceived exertion, and the heart rate are all measured at the end of each 4 minute stage. The blood sample is taken during the last 30 seconds of each stage. Results             Based on the above table and graph, the following interpretations can be made. At the start of the experiment, when the power is still at 0, the subject’s heart rate is 93 beats per minute, the lactate 1.3 mmol/l, and the RPE is not stated or lacking since this is measured at the start. At 100 watts, when the subject has a maximal heart rate of 121 beats per minute, the lactate is 3 mmol/l and the RPE is 7. At 130 watts, with a heart rate of 132 beats per minute, the lactate is 3.2 mmol/l and the RPE is still 7. At 160 watts, the heart rate is 149 beats per minute, the lactate 3.7 mmol/l and the RPE is 8. At 190 watts, the heart rate is 161 beats per minute, the lactate is 4.8 mmol/l, and the RPE is 10. At 220 watts with a heart rate of 173 beats per minute, the lactate is 7.6 mmol/l, and the RPE is 13. At 250 watts with a heart rate of 184 beats per minute, the lactate is 12.6 mmol/l, and the RPE is 15. Lastly, at 280 watts, the heart rate is 188 beats per minute, the lactate is 16.7 mmol/l, and the RPE is 19.             There is also a 2-minute post-exercise lactate which is 16.2 mmol/l and a 5-minute post-exercise lactate which is 15.2 mmol/l. Critical Discussion  During exercise, such as sprinting type activities, when the rate of demand for energy is high, lactate is produced faster than the ability of the tissues to remove it and lactate concentration begins to rise. This is a beneficial process since the regeneration of NAD+ ensures that energy production is maintained and exercise can continue. During exercise, the amount of oxygen entering the blood in the lungs is increased because the amount of oxygen to be added to each unit of blood and the pulmonary blood flow per minute are increased. The PO2 of blood flowing into the pulmonary capillaries falls from 40 to 25 mm Hg or less, so that the alveolar-capillary PO2 gradient is increased and more oxygen enters the blood (Ganong, 2001). Blood flow per minute is increased from 5.5 L/min to as much as 20-35 L/min. The total amount of oxygen entering the blood therefore increases from 250 mL/min at rest to values as high as 4000 mL/min. The amount of carbon dioxide removed from each unit of blood is increased, and carbon dioxide excretion increases from 200 mL/min to as much as 8000 mL/min (Ganong, 2001). The law of mass action states that as the end products of a chemical reaction build up in a reacting medium, the rate of the reaction approaches zero. The two end products of the glycolytic reactions are (1) pyruvic acid and (2) hydrogen atoms combined with NAD+ to form NADH and H+. The build-up of either or both of these would stop the glycolytic process and prevent further formation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) (Guyton & Hall, 2000). When their qualities begin to be excessive, these two end products react with each other to form lactic acid. Thus, under anaerobic conditions by far, the major portion of the pyruvic acid is converted into lactic acid, which diffuses readily out of the cells into the extracellular fluids and even into the intracellular fluids of other less active cells (Guyton & Hall, 2000). The increase in oxygen uptake is proportionate to work load up to a maximum. Above this maximum, oxygen consumption levels off and the blood lactate level continues to rise. The lactate comes from muscles in which aerobic resynthesis of energy stores cannot keep pace with their utilization and an oxygen debt is being incurred (Ganong, 2001). Contrary to popular belief, this increased concentration of lactate does not directly cause acidosis, nor is it responsible for muscle pain or “burning”. This is because lactate itself is not capable of releasing a proton, and secondly, the acidic form of lactate (lactic acid) cannot be formed under normal circumstances in human tissues. Analysis of the glycolytic pathway in human indicates that there are not enough hydrogen ions present in the glycolytic intermediates to produce lactic or any other acid.             The relationship between the increase in blood lactate and oxygen supply to the muscle has a long history. Studies performed early in this century closely linked exercise intensity, lactate appearance, metabolic acidosis, and bicarbonate buffering. These associations provided a convenient and logical explanation for lactate production during exercise. Numerous studies have supported the link between oxygen supply and the magnitude of the increase in blood lactate, albeit without direct evidence of the cause and effect. For example, the extent to which lactate increases in the blood during exercise is reduced as fitness increases or with training  increased in the presence of reduced cardiac output states or disease of the electron transport chain. When oxygen supply is experimentally altered, blood lactate is profoundly affected. With an increase in inspired oxygen tension, either by increasing the oxygen content of the inspired air or by increasing the barometric pressure, the exercise-induced increase in lactate level is attenuated. Decreasing the fraction of inspired oxygen either experimentally or by exposure to altitude increases blood lactates. In normal subjects, reducing blood volume causes an increase in blood lactate level during exercise. In patients with chronic heart failure, increasing cardiac output with inotropic therapy attenuates the increase in blood lactate during exercise (Ashley, 1997).             The concept that a “threshold” exists, in which there is a sudden onset of anaerobic metabolism resulting in the accumulation of lactate in the blood has been challenged. Recently, this issue has generated some rather lively debate. Studies by some investigators raised questions about the subjective intraobserver and interobserver reliability and reproducibility of ventilatory and lactate thresholds. Concerns over the presence or absence of a discrete threshold point led investigators with the use of a log-log transformation (ie, plotting oxygen uptake, lactate, or [CO.sub.2] production on logarithmic axes). These investigators reported that lactate exhibited an abrupt transition from a slowly increasing phase to a rapidly accelerating phase, for which the findings are consistent with the historic interpretation of the anaerobic threshold (Ashley, 1997). Despite of its wide adaption, however, such idea was unacceptable to many since among other things, a log transformation could “create” a visually apparent breakpoint where none existed before, by spreading out the early data points over the X-axis relative to the other later on (Ashley, 1997).             The lag in blood lactate concentration observed during the test is possibly related to vasoconstriction of the active muscle mass stemming from isometric contraction of the body during the exercise effort. More specifically, if a measurement of peak blood lactate concentration is required after an ergometry test, it is recommended that a capillary blood sample should be obtained 3-5 mins after exercise.             The fixed blood lactate concentration of 4.0 mmol * [l.sup.-1] has been used extensively to monitor and prescribe endurance exercise training programmes with adults in many studies. It is well recognized that the blood lactate response to exercise is different in young people than in adults. Therefore, a lower fixed blood lactate concentration has been proposed to use in children. The rationale for these single concentrations was that they represent the maximum exercise intensity at equilibrium between blood lactate accumulation and elimination occurs. This physiological parameter is believed to represent the highest intensity of exercise that can be supported almost exclusively by oxidative energy metabolism (Price, 2002). Conclusion The lactate threshold provides a clear picture of the subject’s current fitness level. The lactate threshold, along with the power output can determine a person’s specific heart-rate training zones. Knowing these zones and how to intersperse them enables everyone to ultimately improve performance. At the start, concentrations of lactate rise slowly, but then suddenly, increase sharply at a clearly-defined point, which is termed as the lactate threshold. The lactate threshold corresponds to the shift in metabolism to anaerobic within the muscle cells after exercise has begun in the experiment. At this point, lactate is being produced faster than it can be metabolized and it accumulates, passing into the blood. Obtaining blood samples can determine the amount of lactate present in the blood. The way to improve Lactate Threshold is to incorporate one or two Lactate Threshold training to run into the weekly plan. These are run at a comfortably hard, near race pace, with a steady, unvarying effort. After about five to 10 minutes of easy running, run for at least 20 minutes at Lactate Threshold pace. An individual should work hard but not have to slow down over the course. Considering this,  they will be too fast and it won’t be as beneficial as maintaining a steady Lactate Threshold effort. A person can measure their training zone by heart rate, pace, or perceived effort. But it is best if their course are on the average  level and smooth so that they are able to maintain a regular tempo (hence the term tempo runs) rather than having to speed up or slow down to accommodate hills and rough terrain.
