COMMUNICATION IN CHIMPS 1.0 Background of the Study Human speech is commonly recognized as the dividing line between humans and the rest of the animal world (1994). The ability to speak is such a sharply defined boundary that goes deeper than the mere existence of a person for it is a special human ability. In relation, chimpanzees are humans’ closest living relatives, sharing more than 98 percent of the humans’ genetic blueprint, and they too are capable of communicating like humans. Chimps employ a rich variety of gestures and facial expressions to keep in touch with each other, and more importantly, there is intelligence behind the exchanges that makes for a level of understanding unseen elsewhere in the animal world. This sort of communication ability is what makes chimps appear far more socially advanced than any other animal. They may have a simple repertoire of noises and body language, but the intelligence with which these signals are used and interpreted makes a big difference. Humans and chimps share a common ancestor who lived some four to eight million years ago. Chimpanzees scientific name is Pan Troglodytes. Chimps live in social communities of several dozen animals, and can habituate themselves to rain forests, woodlands, and grasslands. Although they normally walk on all fours, chimps can stand and walk upright. By swinging from branch to branch (prehensile), they can also move quite efficiently on trees. Although chimps and humans are closely related, the apes have suffered much at human hands. These great apes are endangered and still threatened by bush meat hunters and habitat destruction. 2.0 Statement of the Problem             Communication between chimpanzees is not far from the way humans communicate. What are the communicative signals that show chimps are in the process of communicating—is it the same as the humans do?  Chimpanzees are  the noisiest type of all apes, and they use about a dozen different noises in expressing their emotions, such as grunts, hoots, screeches, and whimpers. It might hoot with anger or screech with fear. These responses are genetically programmed like a call, and do not have to learn to screech or hoot and has a standard response to its feelings. Moreover, how do communication in chimps and humans differ? Can chimps and humans understand each other emotionally? Chimpanzees and humans use the same parts of the brain when communicating, suggesting a common ancestral root to the linguistic prowess of humans, and raising the possibility that chimps are capable of highly complex communication. 3.0 Objectives of the Study The main purpose of this study is to analyze the several activities that chimpanzees engage to in delivering communication. This research, specifically, purports to determine how these activities affect effective communication between chimpanzees and distinguish the role of people in utilizing chimps’ capability of this highly complex skill. This research takes into account the practices that chimpanzees engage to that show their special ability of communication. This study intends to explore the potential of chimps in communicating to people intellectually. The study also seeks to evaluate the difference and similarities between communication in man and chimps and how these differences affect both worlds. 4.0 Research Methodology This study will use the descriptive type of research. A descriptive research intends to present facts concerning the nature and status of a situation, as it exists at the time of the study and to describe present conditions, events or systems based on the impressions or reactions of the respondents of the research (1994). It is also concerned with relationships and practices that exist, beliefs and processes that are ongoing, effects that are being felt, or trends that are developing ( 1970). The description is used for frequencies, averages and other statistical calculations. Prior to writing the descriptive research is to conduct a survey investigation. The aim of description includes follow-up examinations of why the observations exist and what the implications of the findings are. Furthermore, primary and secondary research will be both incorporated. The reason for this is to be able to provide adequate discussion for the readers that will help them understand more about the issue and the different variables that involve with it. The primary data for the study will be represented by the survey results that will be acquired from the respondents. On the other hand, the literature reviews to be presented in the second chapter of the study will represent the secondary data of the study. The research will be presented in written form with the addition of data charts, which will present the project’s results. TRUSTING ONLINE BUSINESSES 1.0 Background of the Study Electronic Business, or “e-Business”, may be defined as the utilization of information and communication technologies (ICT) in support to all the activities of a business. Commerce constitutes the exchange of products and services between businesses, groups and individuals and hence can be seen as one of the essential activities of a business. Electronic commerce or eCommerce focuses on the use of ICT to enable the external activities and relationships of the business with individuals, groups and other businesses online. eCommerce seeks to add revenue streams using the World Wide Web or the Internet to build and enhance relationships with clients and partners and to improve efficiency. When organizations go online, they have to decide which e-business models best suit their goals. A business model is defined as the organization of product, service and how the information flows, and the source of revenues and benefits for suppliers and customers. The concept of e-business model is the same but used in the online presence (,2004). Moreover, the day shopping and doing business online changed the way the world trades and communicates. It’s easy to navigate the Web but hard to remain secure that you are dealing with a legitimate business. Knowing how to detect fraudulent online business will put someone in a calm state of mind when acquiring goods online. Businesses online must have a strategy on how to acquire customer trust and give the necessary information to them thoroughly. 2.0 Statement of the Problem             The achievement of trust from customers is main issue here. Businesses online will gain the trust of their online customers if they give the required need of the customers. Illegally getting money out of the people purchasing is the sole reason why people are getting reluctant and do not trust entrepreneurs online.  What the local government is doing in protecting citizens from online scams is critical, as well as what the local people is also doing to protect themselves is equally crucial in not becoming a victim of fraud.  Maintaining trust among the purchaser and the businessperson, then, is important in having a harmonious and productive relationship.   3.0     Objectives of the Study The main purpose of this study is to analyse the several activities or events that jeopardises effective communication between the customer and the businessperson. This research, specifically purports to determine how these activities affect the loyalty and trust of the customer to a particular online business. It also aims to distinguish the role of the people on the safety measures they do, the authority having jurisdiction in protecting and recovering the lost money and product most especially, the behavioral tactics of the online businesspersons in gaining and losing their potential customers. This research will also take into account the examination of the online purchasers on the factors why they become doubtful to some online businesses and in reverse, what must the online businesspersons do to gain the customer’s trust. 4.0     Research Methodology This study will use the descriptive type of research. AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRIES   INTRODUCTION The automobile industry is concerned with profits and competition; with consumer demands for styling, safety, and efficiency; and with labor relations and manufacturing efficiency (“,” 2008). About 250 million vehicles are in the United States. Around the world, there were about 806 million cars and light trucks on the road in 2007; they burn over 260 billion gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel yearly. The numbers are increasing rapidly, especially in China and India ( “” 2008). In 2008, with rapidly rising oil prices, industries such as the automotive industry, are experiencing a combination of pricing pressures from raw material costs and changes in consumer buying habits. The industry is also facing increasing external competition from the public transport sector, as consumers re-evaluate their private vehicle usage (“,” 2008).             Moreover,  automobiles has enabled people to travel and transport goods farther and faster, and has opened wider market areas for business and commerce. The automotive industry has reduced the overall cost of transportation by using methods such as mass production (making several products at once, rather than one at a time), mass marketing (selling products nationally rather than locally), and globalization of production (assembling products with parts made worldwide). From 1886 to 1898, about 300 automobiles were built, but there was no real established industry. A century later, with automakers and auto buyers expanding globally, automaking became the world’s largest manufacturing activity, with nearly 58 million new vehicles built each year worldwide.(“,” 2008).   RESEARCH QUESTIONS AND OBJECTIVES Statement of the Problem             The problem to be investigated in this study is the economic importance of the automotive industry. It will explore the social impact it has brought worldwide and how it is affecting the world of commerce. It will also explain the foreign trade and the different automotive industries of each country.                         The following sub-questions will be evaluated:       What  pollution-control strategies each automotive industry are practicing?       What are the latest in automobile safety measures?       How does motor vehicle production affect the economy?       What are the standards of manufacturing efficiency in an automobile?               The objective of this study is to investigate the automobile industry and how it is affecting the one’s economy It will also assess and delve its different marketing strategies. It also aims to determine the different tools and applications a certain automobile company practices.     RESEARCH METHODOLOGY     This study will use the descriptive type of research. A descriptive research intends to present facts concerning the nature and status of a situation, as it exists at the time of the study and to describe present conditions, events or systems based on the impressions or reactions of the respondents of the research (1994). It is also concerned with relationships and practices that exist, beliefs and processes that are ongoing, effects that are being felt, or trends that are developing (1970).   In this study, primary and secondary research will be incorporated. Having both  will thoroughly able to provide adequate discussion for the readers and will help them understand more about the automobile industry  and the different variables that is involved with it. The primary data for the study will be represented by the survey results will be acquired from the respondents and interviews with some of the heads of an automobile company. On the other hand, the literature reviews to be presented in the second chapter of the study will represent the secondary data of the study.   The research will be presented in written form with the addition of data charts which will present the company’s data results. EFFECTS OF ON-THE-JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS   1.0 Background of the Study Evaluating job training programs are remarkably consistent — surprisingly so, given the variation in the kinds of programs that have been supported and the differences in the methods of evaluation. A large number of job training programs lead to increased earnings, and the benefits generally outweigh the costs — though the increases in earnings are moderate by almost any standards, insufficient to lift those enrolled in such programs out of poverty. Welfare-to-work programs also increase employment and reduce the amount of welfare, but they rarely allow individuals to leave welfare. Furthermore, any benefits probably fade out after four or five years: job training programs seem to put many individuals on career trajectories with continued earning increases, as formal schooling does. For some groups — youth in particular — job training programs generally seem to be effective and programs appear to be more effective for women than for men — but otherwise it is difficult to conclude that any particular group benefits more than any other. Job training programs have created a substantial number of programs whose benefits–for individuals in dire need of employment and economic independence– completely inadequate to the task of moving them out of poverty, or into stable employment. Such well-intentioned efforts have been so effective. On-the-job training has a large positive effect on wages for employees , and  in jobs that require long on-the-job training earn significantly more than workers in jobs with short training requirements (2004).   2.0 Statement of the Problem What are effects of on-the-job training on employees that contribute in an organization’s success? Given the global nature of online transactions, an important question is whether trust and trust formation is different from culture to culture (2004). The importance of consumer trust to the success of an online business is well documented in literature. Any business must attract possible customers and that task does not stop at that. Maintaining customer relationship by providing trusted and quality services will lead to a building of a business that does not only depend upon the money invested but also the trust of the customers. Creating a business through attractive and glamorous web sites is not sufficient, what is more important is the consumer satisfaction and the goodwill that is created in the minds of the consumer. People expect transparency when they wish to trade online. Being open to all queries and details will contribute to the building of trust. Full details about the aims and goals of the business, the contact details, customer care numbers should all be available in the online business site. All possible information clearly stating that the business is registered legally along with the license copy must be evident to ensure consumer trust. The payments methods must be definitely secured, as it will benefit both the customer and the business. Proposal   Background of the Study             The computer and technology business is well-established and it is now one of the biggest players in the business arena. According to Malowski (1986), advancement in technology that started as early as 1600′s have guided our world into what is at the present called “the information age”.             In the ever-changing environment of the computer industry, competition becomes the major organisational principle of marketing activities. Thus all companies in the industry are challenged to formulate strategies that will ensure them of achieving competitive advantage over other companies. In their attempts at securing a large market share, many computer companies have ventured into e-commerce.             An important internal process in e-commerce is supply chain management (SCM). Companies should identify ways to leverage the Internet in each part of the value chain, from procurement to distribution to delivery. In fact, failure to adopt e-commerce-specific cost savings will likely put a company at a serious competitive disadvantage. Strong supply chain management is often the basis for providing superior service. In the area of procurement, a company can reduce the cost of goods sold by obtaining products through the Internet. Distribution strategies must not only cut costs but also provide the fastest and most convenient customer service. Delivery strategies should maximise convenience and speed for customers, using both the Internet and the company’s existing infrastructure to provide these benefits. The best supply-chain practices, however, depend on the type of offering.             Supply chain management is also, for the most part, a practical area for alliance when the firm cannot just supply online consumers from similar distribution channels like physical stores. Target, Kmart, and Wal-Mart have all made such arrangements in dealing with their general merchandising business. Additionally, CVS also simplified its procurement process for its Web site by entering into a partnership with Merck.com (Epstein, 2005).   Aims and Objectives             The objective of the paper is to analyse how big computer companies, like Dell Computer, survive in the fast moving PC industry and evaluate its SCM practices as tool of their competitive advantage. This would involve a case study of Dell Computer. The case study would include its company background and analysis of its problems encountered.             Dell Computer is a leading company in the computer market. However, with the presence of competitors and in competing in the price war market, this has created a difficulty on the Dell Computer to sustain its previously created competitive advantage. Currently, Computer is facing a tough challenges coming from the new industry standard and the profit of the PC become smaller.             This paper attempts to analyse problems encountered by Dell and suggest strategies which it may adopt to enable it to stay competitive and achieve continuous growth in computer industry. In addition, the paper analyses how Dell Computer can use these strategies to create its innovative and technological competitive advantage. Moreover, this study will also examine the factors affecting the implementation of SCM in the e-business environment and provide guidelines as to the best practices in SCM in the computer industry.   Methodology             A descriptive research will be conducted. Both the qualitative and quantitative approaches (multi-methods strategy) to research will also be employed. Qualitative data will be gathered from in-depth interviews involving select managers in some computer companies. Quantitative data will be gathered from the survey to be conducted with managers. Desk research will also be conducted to supply further information about the topic.   Scope and Limitations             This research centres on the supply chain aspect and competitive advantage of Dell. Other issues regarding the business environment of the company will be also considered. Moreover, issues concerning supply chain problems of Dell and how its revitalisation plan was able to resolve it. On the other hand, what is the most effective way to increase the performance of an employee is through the use of payment.  Research Aim and Objectives The main aim of the study is to understand the motivational approach through the use of payment and as well as measuring its effectiveness in all the level of employees. There are three important objectives that can help the study achieve its aim. First is to have a deep understanding on the objectives or purpose of motivation. Second is to determine the various approaches being implemented by the leaders just to reach their expectancy on their employees. And last is to consult the perceptions of the employees regarding the payment as a motivational approach.  Literature Review Critically, the nature of motivation centers with the energy, direction, persistence and partial achievement in doing a certain work. There are different intention that portrays of each employee because of their uniqueness in terms of characteristics and bearing. Typically, a person enables to achieve their goals by fueling great enthusiasm towards it. Within the study of motivation, there is a wide concept which has been widely applied in both academics and professional world. The overall result of motivation is highly valued because of the positive implications that it promises within the organization. In a lighter way, motivation can be alike to the carrot and stick technique, wherein the leaders gives punishment and rewards to the people who are not focusing on their appropriate responsibilities. The organizational leaders embrace the truths that the people play their role within the workplace according to the factors that might affect them (Linnenbrink and Pintrich, 2002). Most of the previous studies pertaining to the motivational approach gave emphasized on the monetary rewards that can be the answer on the needs of an employee. The payment scenario is not entirely the total motivation for the employee but still proven effective to develop the potentials found among the individuals. The kind of payment being given by the organization is different among the compensation or standard payment the employees. In this matter, the organization should be prepared on the certain conditions that might be presented in the implementation of the monetary rewards. The challenge is now on the business and their ability to answer the stability of their financial matters because it is another expense that they must cover (Alexy and Leitner, 2007; Ghosh, 2007). Methodology The suggested method in the study is the use of the survey and interview within a typical workplace. Firstly, there should be a consultation in the population of the workforce regarding the existence of motivation and the influence that it created to increase their performance. The survey will be in a form of questionnaire using the Likert Scale to make it easier to the participants. The second phase of the method which is the interview will serve as a supporting documentary that will determine on how effective the motivational approach can be in the eyes of the managers. Assessment of Child Abuse and Criminal Behaviors     1.1.        Introduction and Problem Statement                         Abused children in general, are those children that have experience physical, mental and sexual abuse. Typically, they show manifestations of behavioral or emotional problems and lack the needed support to handle developmental tasks successfully. Once these abused children grow into adults, they are likely to be involved in chronic unemployment, divorce, substance abuse, physical and psychiatric problems, divorce incidences as well as other forms of criminal activity (Patterson, DeBaryshe, & Ramsey, 1989: 331). So as to aid abused children, mentoring and assessment programs have been introduced.             Mentoring and assessment programs have become a popular strategy for attending to the need of young people who have been abused.. Thus, a number of schools and social service agencies are presently conducting programs for mentoring. Through these efforts, mentoring has then become an essential approach for responding to students with problems on academics and behavior (For comment #11) (Struchen and Porta, 1997). In an assessment set up, adults usually take the role of a parent or advisor and are paired with young people to establish a supportive and trusting relationship. Aside from the fact that mentoring and assessment programs enable community development and cooperation, they can be customized based on the students’ personality and learning capabilities (Campbell-Whatley, Algozzine and Obakor, 1997: 362). In the United States, the increasing awareness on the availability of various mentoring and assessment programs has led to their rapid growth.  These mentoring and assessment programs are focused on the establishment of a relationship between a troubled youngster and a caring adult. This relationship is developed by means of spending quality time together and providing substantial support and guidance. In general, the aim of these mentoring and assessment programs is to help young individual in overcoming the difficulties of life (Allessandri, et al., 2002: 717). While mentoring and assessment programs have clear objectives and established approaches on addressing youth concerns, the efficacy of these programs remain in question. There have been previous researches with regard to the effects of mentoring and assessment programs to abused children (e.g. Grossman and Garry, 1997; Tierney and Grossman, 1995; Slicker and Palmer, 1993). Nonetheless, results of these previous researches were inconsistent, implying that research on the effects of mentoring and assessment programs is still at its infancy stage (Allessandri, et al., 2002: 718).   Considering that there is an urgent need to address the problems inherent among abused children, assessing the effectiveness of these mentoring and assessment programs is then necessary. Hence, this research study will be conducted for the purpose of examining the efficacy of a particular mentoring program (For Comment #12). This will be achieved by identifying the effects mentoring and assessment programs have on abused children, specifically on their academic and behavioral development. The focus of the research will be on the history and current status of mentoring and assessment programs in the United States, as well as their relationship on the abused children development. The perceptions of the participants towards these mentoring and assessment programs will be essential to the outcome of this research.                In general, this study intends to examine the quality and efficacy of mentoring and assessment programs for abused children. So as to gather relevant information, this study will attempt to answer the following queries:   1.            What is the current status of the chosen assessment and mentoring program on abused children? 2.            What are the variables that significantly affect the mentoring program on abused children? 3.            Did the selected assessment and mentoring program among abused childrens affect their academic and behavioral development? 4.            Did the mentoring and assessment program for abused children result to enhanced academic performance or behavior? 5.            In what ways can current mentoring and assessment programs be improved?   Methodology     The study intends to investigate the impact of assessment and mentoring programs to at-risk youth. For this study, primary research and secondary research will be used. Moreover, the descriptive research method will be utilized. In this method, it is possible that the study would be cheap and quick. It could also suggest unanticipated hypotheses. Nonetheless, it would be very hard to rule out alternative explanations and especially infer causations. Thus, this study will use the descriptive approach. This descriptive type of research utilizes observations in the study.  Descriptive research method is used to gather information about in order to describe a particular condition, phenomena or event (Creswell, 1994) Primary research will be conducted using the data from “Child Behavior Checklists” as well as from survey questionnaires that will be given to the children’s parents or family members. Basically, the data from “Child Behavior Checklists” will be obtained through pre and post intervention interviews.  The secondary data will based from the recent literatures related to mentoring, mentoring programs and at-risk youth.                         As stated above, this research will partially base its findings through quantitative research methods as this permits a flexible and iterative approach. During data gathering, the choice and design of methods will be constantly modified based on ongoing analysis. This study will also employ qualitative research method as it will try to find and build theories that will explain the relationship of one variable with another through qualitative elements in research.
