-10 ways to save money

From the time I got to know about money and buying, saving is the most difficult thing to do. When I know that I have money, I usually go to the mall, eat a lot and I buy a lot. I just leave a few for the rest of the weeks to come, for my food and other necessary things I may spend on. But, saving is the last thing I could do with my money. It’s not that I avoid saving money ‘cause I know that silly, but I just did not know how to. So, you should not make me as an icon, okay.

As women, we should always be aware that there will be a point in our life that we need to let out some cash for something urgent. Or, we should have some savings for the future. If we have a dream, we save for it.

There are several ways on how to save money, and most of the time, it requires us being thrifty. Most of these things that I’d write are advices to myself. So, I hope these could help us both.

Instead of staying inside your house and be a couch potato, get a job. It’s already been some time since you had your vacation and stayed in your house and relaxed, watched DVDs and all the shows on TV, played with your baby sister, ate, and slept. Now, it’s time for you to get a job that will make you earn what you deserve.

Instead of treating your friends, family, and love ones everytime you receive your salary, do it on your first salary only. That way, you could use the 20% of your salary as your savings. Everytime you receive your salary, set aside the 20% of it and put it in a place in your room where no one would notice, even yourself. Put it in an envelop, label with “for the future, do not use!”, and hide it in the innermost part of the unnoticed area of your room.

Budget your monthly expenses. Count the money you’ll be spending for your transportation, food, clothing, medical/ dental checkup, groceries, load, etc. set aside the money you’ll be spending for those things. Be sure that you do not overestimate and overspend.

If you can get rid of buying new clothes or new fashion items, do so because they are not that essential. Unless you have nothing more to wear. Instead of buying the signature items in the mall, go to the Ukay-ukay stores, I’m sure you’ll find the items you’ve been looking for.

Bargain with the prices especially when you are buying things in the market, in a bazaar, or in the streets. As long as you have the ability to speak your mind, the vendors would consider your bargaining.

Do not ride a lot, walking keeps you healthy. We, Filipinos have the tendency to ride a vehicle even if we know we are going to place that’s walking distance. Wake up early and leave home early so that you still have time to have a walk to your destination, it does not only make you save money, it also makes your body healthy.

Buy a container of water instead of buying a bottle of it everytime you eat. You could bring water with you anytime in your container wherever you go. That way, you need not spend on a bottle of water which costs already one-third of your one water container at home.

Buy things in the supermarket or in the market as a whole. Do not spend on buying things like shampoo, napkins, cooking oil, eggs, etc. in the sari-sari store near you because if you sum it up, the amount of money you spent in the sari-sari store would cost more or less than twice when you buy them in the market.

Turn off your refrigerator if it only contains water. It’s cheaper if you buy some ice cubes in a store near you than turning on the refrigerator for a long time when all you’d benefit from it is a glass of water every after meal. Conserve the rest of the electrical energy too.

Do not spend on something that is low-quality. You may just end up busted. If it’s about house items, it’s better to save first for the amount of a high-quality item. That way, you would not cry over spilled milk.

In the end, the money you’ve saved from all of these penny-pinching would be put in a bank. After several months, I’m sure you will be able to save an amount of money that could start your savings in the bank. And remember, it does not end there. Never touch the money you saved until it’s time to.
