TREATMENT OUTCOME OF DENGUE IN RELATION WITH THE EMPATHY AND ALTRUISM IN PARAMEDICAL STAFF IN PAKISTAN
Dengue fever cases has become epidemic in Pakistan records shows that there are at least 5 person per day has become a casualty because of this disease. The Government of Pakistan and City Government in Lahore, Punjab joined together to form an alliance they call it “Punjab Health Line Project for Dengue” this is a 24 hour hotline service so that people in Lahore can easily call to bring their patient in case of emergency and if symptoms starts to reside in their location in order to easily treat the outcome of dengue before it comes to worst. They can also be reached in their hotline 0800 – 99000 in order to immediately respond in isolated locations. These services also include online information and first aid treatment for emergency cases so that patients can be given a first aid solution at home.
There are patients who suffered from chilling, headache, painful legs and joints and bleeding. Usually they are given fluid intakes, vaccine, aspirin and other drugs they also need plenty of rest and liquids. In case of bleeding they are given Tylenol and Codeine but since there are no tested and approved vaccine for dengue the medical doctors and paramedical staff in Pakistan particularly in Lahore, Punjab are all highly trained regarding dengue virus and its treatment. Psychologically they give encouragement and healthy environment not just to patients but also to their immediate family so that they can develop a strong bonding relationship and hope to their health. They have exercised the so called supportive therapy in order to tackle especial treatment and prepare them about the critical situation they will need to face. This kind of psychological treatment also prepared them about the outcome.
Medically, according to Doctor Batool there really is no special medication to diagnose and treatment to this disease but the best way is to prevent or remove the spread of such mosquitoes in their areas. In the initiative of the Punjab Government they have also called upon the help of doctors from other countries including Sri Lanka and Indonesia in order to formulate a solid strategy in dealing with this disease. The treatment outcome of dengue in Pakistan in relation to humanitarian endeavor is to inform the patients and residence to take all the necessary precautions in eliminating all the sources of breeding in stored or possible places where mosquitoes can live and spread such as water canals, bottles, stored rain water and other stagnant water.
The government even give financial assistance of half million rupees for patients and their immediate family especially those who died in this disease. The government have even organize a group of team that will maintain and control the sanitation, fogging and spraying in various locations in Pakistan to be able to intensify and destroy the fumigation process of the aedes mosquitoes that are spreading the disease. Mosquitoes from villages, downtown and schools have been their focus last September of 2011 the Government of Punjab even ordered 10 days “off school” and even government, media and business institutions has spread the dengue prevention control in their areas so that they can limit such incidents.
Private and Public Hospitals and Pakistan Armed Forces can even extend their services in order to accommodate the patients. Additionally they have also give and distribute information materials such as leaflet and booklet in the community, schools and public places in order to maximize the awareness about this deadly disease. By September of 2011 Dengue cases in Lahore have reached to 9781 killing more than 300 persons from different places where in the Eastern City of Lahore suffered the worst cases. Officially the total overall records is 18, 235 has recovered and sent home from different hospitals where 16,270 belonged to the community of Lahore alone.
According to Health Director General in Punjab, Asiam Chaundry that beside their staff of the hospitals the government have also deployed especial team that will monitor and control dengue cases in various hospitals in Lahore to prevent the spread of this epidemic disease. They have also distributed injection for the treatment of this virus in various public hospitals and government agencies where thousands of patients has been treated and released since the outbreak but thousands are still under observation. Despite the government initiative in providing free cure and hospitalization the common people believed that they have not done much and they have failed to take the solid step to deal with the epidemic, so they continue to look for cure.
