The American Dream is difficult to describe, since every American has a different concept of it. For most men however, it is closely associated with automobiles.


During early 1920’s the American Designs made by Ford, General Motors and Chrysler have started to take the automobile market. By 1940’s , American Automobile Styling symbolized the most advanced example of designing goods in the market to fulfill the American’s dream and aspirations. This era was also known as the “Teenage Automobile Culture” where in teenage boys demonstrates the manhood by closely linking themselves as near as possible to their automobiles. Automobiles in this era are the dream machines.


The rise of collection cars and luxury cars came in. the new Chevrolet clipper with an exclusive vacuum power shift came in for 1 on 1940. Same with Studebaker champion that saves 25% of fuel per mile. Hudson, which was branded as “the all around performance in America” was introduced in the market on 1949. It was the most spacious and most stylish car, and was sold for 81.


This study is interested exploring between the connections of the American Dream to the evolution of automobiles in United States. This study would like to research on the role the automobiles play in the hopes and aspirations of Americans in 1940 especially to the male ones.


This study will use history books, graphical representations to research on the topic. Archive printed news articles, as well as online news articles will be use to support the findings of the study.


This study will be beneficial in analyzing the trend of the automobile business in United States.
