PREFERENCES OF TEENAGERS ON USING CONDOMS
Modernization and industrialization brought about changes in our society today; the fast pace economic influence to most of our family causes parents and guardians to participate in wealth creation that they have sometimes forgotten to take time to investigate on their children to what activities they would be engaging. Teenagers who are likely to be neglected by their parents oftentimes may find themselves to engage in any activity that they would find to be important and something that would give them the sense of attention they would need but most of the time these teenagers pro create themselves to form a group or find attention seeking activities that they do not realize to ruin their lives. Sometimes they may be involved in drugs, alcohol or even criminal activities. They may also be involved in sexual activity for pleasure.
Sometimes it is the society that teaches them; the television, radio, media, the internet and most of all peer pressure. They are deep rooted influences that make them participate without much thinking knowing that it is their peer that gives them the attention they need and so they are likely to follow such group. In Canada, research has been conducted as early as 1990’s because the government and the community have been alarmed due to the rising problem in early pregnancy and early marital engagement of their youth. There are reports that teenagers are participating in multiple relationship and orgies, it shows that in 2005 there are 263,000 or 58% boys and girls Quebec teenagers as early as 15 to 19 years of their age have at least had one sexual intercourse in their life.
Most of these teenagers most basically have a planned activity in their preferences that shows that in 2005 most of these teenagers have known the use of condoms. In the same reports in Canada it also shows that 80% percent of boys 15 to 19 of age uses condom in their sexual activity while there are 65 to 70% percent of girls have also prefer such contraceptives. This means that these teenagers are aware of what they do. They may have prevented the sexual transmission of various diseases among the youth but knowing such preferences the teenage sinful participation is unbelievably high. The responsibility, value and obligations of minors have not been inculcated in their mind. In America, particularly in Chicago (AP) an unbelievable data shows that 80% percent of 4,700 respondents of boy teen-agers ages 15 to 19 in the collective years of 2006 to 2010 have admitted to use condoms for their first sexual intercourse.
This may have shown that they are responsible enough to use condoms to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases such as HIV and aids but they are negligence in value and morality but this has been introduced by their government rather than educating the children about sexual preferences only after marriage. Using condom in their society is just as simple as eating breakfast. This result in at least 39 birth and early pregnancy in 1000 teenage girls, they have prevented birth of children using condoms and other contraceptives but still they have not controlled the activity of their children. The National Center for Health Statistics revealed in 2005 to 2006 that 47% or almost half of US teenager boys and girls from high school has been engaged in sexual intercourse and 63% percent have used condoms.
In Africa record shows over the last few years’ condoms and other form of contraceptives has also been promoted and it is in this demographic regions that aids, early pregnancy, abortion and other marital and health related issues among youth and adults has been more rampant. The National survey shows in 2001that the use of condoms in adolescence ages 17 to 19 grade 9 to 12 students, respondent shows 38 to 51% percent girls uses condoms while between 58 to 63% percent of boys uses condoms. However the use of such contraceptives does not shown an improvement and health related issues still remain as their one of the most significant problem in Africa. The rates of pregnancy and the transfer of HIV and sexually transmitted disease have not shown much decrease in spite of contraceptives promotion.
The data is quiet clear that the world has been trying to prevent most of the diseases that can be found in sexual intercourse especially among the youth by using contraceptives like condoms but the real problem which is deep rooted issues that has been hidden has not been subjected to such prevention. If only the government and organization including academic institution would focus more on Christian values and morality there will be not much need of such prevention but the adolescence themselves will not be engaged in such activities. The prevention of diseases of such practices maybe possible but the dilemma and psychological effect of promoting such contraceptive would give them a more authority to engage in such activity rather than preventing them. Children should be thought more about their responsibility in their behavior rather than giving them the treatment in their sinful act.
