BROAD AREAS AND METHODS OF SOCIAL WORK
Social Work is a profession that is closely connected to social movement and social justice, equality and solidarity of people and the society. Social Workers objectives is to promote the quality of life of people through mentoring and proper intervention practices, they can perform organized and scientific approach in counseling and evaluation to groups of people and individual. They can also specialized their services in the community by helping people through their social and interpersonal relationship that is best practiced if they can help children who suffers from sexual dilemma, they can also act as a mediator from family who suffered from relationship, to women and children who are physically and morally abused.
Social Workers risk their time and effort to serving the community as the needs arise. In some ways the Social Workers are teacher, adviser, and problem solver and they are there to protect and help the people and their human relationship or human rights their work is to bring about positive social changes by uplifting the lives of the people. Social Workers also work for the protection of groups and individual and their differences in bridging their gap if needed. They also promote character building to the community; they can give basic resolution and poverty alleviation through livelihood training and seminars that is usually needed.
The social workers can coordinate from various companies, government and non government organizations for sponsorship and training from isolated communities to bring hope to the poor. There are broad areas and methods of Social Works and up to now they can be divided in many categories and types that these can be attributed to major classifications and otherwise a scientific approach in Social Work that caters to School and focuses on children’s relation. There are also Social Work in Hospitals or Clinic that focuses mostly on patient’s needs of spiritual guidance and strengthening support, there are also Social Works in the Community that Social Workers can extend their services to grassroots areas to help people.
Basically Social Work can be Office based – their work can also be community counseling, family relationship, children and adolescence or group counseling but usually it is the people who visits them respectively to ask for their advice. They can be government or non government representatives and they may also help people in various ways. Usually all their materials and facilities can be found on their offices that is highly structured and designed for problematic people. Their clients are usually; family under pressure, people and children with learning disabilities, they can even use their rooms and facilities to teach the children with this condition, sometimes they may even take good care of homeless individual.
Office Based Social Workers must also comply from rules and regulations set forth by the government and their organizations not to use the facilities for personal use, they are usually the one to take care of the offices and usually they occupied rooms to live in the office or nearby and they may also be the person who are assigned to submit budget proposal in their locations. This authority advantages can lead them to a greater opportunity of overspending or personal budget allocation discrepancy and corruption for their own personal gain, the organizations and government hope that they should not do such actions since they suppose to be the role model to take responsible assessment in the community. They should not also take advantage of their client in physical or moral abusive behavior. They will also be held liable for such actions.
Non Office Based Social Workers – are the Social Workers who work outside their office to reach people, they are the one who seek the Community and how they can help. They build relationship to people through giving basic education services, food feeding or medical services and they can also offer counseling and giving advice etc. they are basically social workers who relates to people with their voluntary services and through this they may be faced with various threats and opportunities but they should also honor their noble professions with respect. They should not be engage in taking advantage of people by collecting fees, insulting minorities, taking their belongings or treating them as low people who follows order because of their lack of intelligence. Social Workers should not degrade people.
Around the world and in most communities, Social Workers are highly respected and praised; they should perform their work diligently. Their noble profession is to help the community and uplift their status, they should not be the one to violate them, but they may be tempted to do so because of their conditions. To eliminate such actions and ethical dilemma the government and organizations should give them the proper benefits and privileges. There should also be a constant supervision in their offices and areas of work to closely monitor the progress and works of the Social Workers in the institution and community through which they are assigned. But basically they should be trusted so they can feel their work as an advocate of peace and goodwill to the society.
