For over the years, the political analysts are guided by the works and influences of the past political thinkers. The knowledge they gained is applied in different disciplines in analyzing and criticizing the ruling of every leaders and predicting their next move. The generation of political analysts is based on the modern era of political decisions and results of the leaders and most of them already forgot the importance of democracy and its relationship to the political aspect. From the studies of different political and democratic critics, they introduction of Weber’s idea on democracy is once again discussed.
Weber and His Theory of Democracy
From the advocate of democratization, Weber took example of Germany as a political marketplace where the strong charismatic leaders are identified and then elected through votes within the free political competition. The concern of Weber in understanding the democracy is something other than the values and institution itself but in breeding the character that is fit within the national leadership (2007).
The theory of democracy embraced the political form that promotes the realism of individual freedom. Weber’s theory of democracy focused on the political insertion of modern democratic orders. In addition, Weber’s works and ideology has been the most influential in political sociology ( 1981) and been used in founding the ideas of democracy (2008).
As the father of political sociology, Max Weber’s writings comprehend the varying political realities (1981). The modern state is simply defined as the human community that has a successful incorporated with the legal use of physical force in a given territory. Furthermore, the legality of the force may sum up the charismatic democracy based on tradition or on to law. Weber elaborated that a democratic state is dominated and ruled by the rulers which is simple unavoidable in terms of political act (2007).
The liberal vision and the social condition are expressed in human freedom. The political democracy is best insures the protection of the individual and the liberties in an inherently unequal social, political, and economic order. The democracy cannot successfully compete with modern social structures and only impede individual structures of modern life.
The formal theory of democracy, in Weber’s view, is the political arena where the political leader is independent of bureaucratic control. It is called as the formal theory of democracy because it implies no specific normative orientation by the state. Democracy depends on the autonomy of the political structure from the social and economic orders (1981). The formal theory of democracy implies no necessary commitment and predicts no normative outcomes. It is where the formal theory of democracy makes no claim on the consequences of the system of political rule of social character of the citizenry.
The possibility of the challenges in political life is manifested in the power of sovereignty and legitimacy in the community of individuals. Weber, his works and the other political thinker that followed his generation, introduced the understanding on the political change. The new beginnings in the revolutionary spirit can be sustained in the course of normal everyday politics (2008).
Conclusion
Learning and interpreting the essence of democracy within the country is the most basic understanding of human rights and the political structure. The root of politics and democracy is reflected in the modern exercise of powers in every state. Although the modern age of democracy captured the political thought, the inquiry of democratic theory and political science is important in the beginning of constitutional orders.
The development of mass citizenship makes the importance of bureaucracy and the officials. With their presence, the democracy and its balance will stay in the system and making decisions that will suit to the entire community or state. The democracy also lies in the hands of the people, living within the state. The sovereignty or voting freedom is the other benefits delivered by the democracy over its people. Many politician struggles running an office, but the essence of democracy remain within its people and the state.
However, many nations already employed or implemented the essence of democracy within their boundaries. The theory of democracy is never a solid foundation of a nation if there are no people who are given a special role and responsibilities to place a balance and justifiable decisions to attain the common good for the society.
