This paper will serve as an analysis and description from the author about the Buddha temple and on how the Buddhist practices their beliefs. The author will also share some thoughts and other knowledge acquired during his trip.
THE BUDDHIST TEMPLE
The place is so sacred. The placing of the Buddha statues were so magnificent making even those non-Buddhist to light an incense candle and kneel down to show some respect to Buddha. The lighted incense candles make the whole place, a conducive place for praying and meditation. The strict rules and regulations regarding the way people walk and talk make the place more meaningful to its visitors.
BUDDHISM
The author does not consider Buddhism as a religion but a belief that is applicable to everyday lives. The teaching of Buddhism that is considered by the author as the great is that it does not pertain to morality. The act of man are considered right as determined by dharma. Dharma is the situation wherein a person is placed. Such as the dharma of a soldier wherein that he has the dharma to kill in order to serve his purpose as a soldier. The killing of a person is wrong however it is justified if done by a soldier because it is his dharma.
This teaching, in applying to a person’s life is great because morality may seem to provide for what is right. Morally right, as perceived by the author has been a determining man’s action throughout the years. However, with this kind of criteria will likely to commit things that are morally wrong, hence making life more complicated. Applying one’s own dharma to the reason of man’s action then the wrong act is justified leaving no misunderstanding.
BUDDHISM PRACTICE
According to Meditation in London (2007), meditation is at the heart of the Buddhist way of life. It further stated that it is essentially a method for understanding and working on one’s own mind.
The author noticed in the Buddhist temple that it encourages people to meditate. Meditating may seem the proper way to do at the temple. The people doing their meditations were all concentrated and not destructed in any noise created by the visitors. The meditation itself is hard to do especially if the person has no inner peace. The art of meditation in the Buddhist way is a the step in order to really understand and fully see the importance of the teachings of Buddha.
ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
The figures of Buddha may be used as ornamental figure that brings good luck to houses. However, the good luck that is expected will not exist without understanding the teachings and principles of Buddhism. The good luck may depend on how the people will be able apply the teachings and principles of Buddhism. The test of one’s own action will always depend on one’s own dharma. Dharma may seem to be destiny, however it is not. Dharma is deeper than destiny. Dharma is the criteria of one’s own life in determining and making his actions. Hence, inculcation into our live the teachings of Dharma can bring peace.
