AN INVESTIGATION ON THE ACQUISITION OF CLEANING CONTRACTS


 


1.0 Introduction


          The working title of the study is initially drafted as – An Investigation on the Acquisition of Cleaning Contracts. A cleaning contract refers to the document that features the agreement made between an individual/cleaning company and another individual/company to which cleaning services will be rendered. Locations where cleaning will be done could vary depending on the nature of the business/operation and cleaning requirements which can include residence, office building or commercial building. Such a document provides for the term of the agreement, the work to be performed, and the payment provisions.  This document may also include the cleaning service providing evidence of adequate insurance coverage. Further, a cleaning contract may be required by any individual or company who offers cleaning services and by building or property owners who desires to involve the services of a cleaning company.


          In winning cleaning contracts, an individual or a company may experience different problems and challenges. For one, winning contracts is subject through competition though the competition cannot be necessarily tagged as fierce. Secondly, the commercial sector is keen on pursuing contracts with cleaning services that of high quality at a reliable cost. Individuals and cleaning companies understood the need to put value on the business in its own right. This is more so because the cleaning business is a niche that is in upward trend in terms of economic growth. Acquiring cleaning contracts that are not only create a win-win situation and profitable but also sustainable is a critical factor. Processes, issues, problems and concerns involve in acquiring cleaning contracts is the focal of this study.


2.0 Statement of the Problem


          The key question to be address is: How do individuals/cleaning companies strategize to acquire cleaning contracts? Other research questions to be given answer to are:


1) What are the common challenges/problems that individuals/cleaning companies encounter in acquiring cleaning contracts?


2) How do the individuals/cleaning companies address these challenges and/or problems?


3.0 Aim and Objectives


The main aim of this research is to investigate the nature and dynamic of acquiring cleaning contracts. Acquiring cleaning contracts is not without difficulties due to specific economic factor such as: presence of other cleaning companies, pursuant of low-cost cleaning companies and preference for in-house cleaning services among others. Specifically, the paper seeks to determine the key strategies implemented by individual/cleaning companies and how these strategies are able to provide these individual/cleaning companies the valuable, rare and inimitable advantage. Likewise, to assess the effectiveness of such strategies in acquiring cleaning contracts will be also addressed. The study purports to discuss the phenomenon of sustainability through effective cleaning contract acquisition as applied in the cleaning industry context.


4.0 Overview of Methodology


The study will adapt an interpretivist approach which allows the search for the details of the situation and to understand the reality that works beyond specific actions. Through this approach, the research will be able to explore subjective meanings that motivate people’s actions. The main aim of this approach is to understand situation and give the most plausible accounts that explain them.


The research will also be exploratory in nature. An exploratory research will enable the researcher to look at the situation in both descriptive and exploratory manner. There would be a possibility to explore the different views of different sets of respondents as well as exploring different literatures that directly relates with the subject. 


The research will incorporate both primary and secondary research. The primary source of data will be the annual reports, corporate profiles and company reviews as well as archival data that deals directly with the subject.
